  • In most areas it is illegal to drive a vehicle while wearing headphones. My father had an issue with this in Denver and tried to have the law amended but it was a no-go. Apparently "they" seem to think that if you have headphones on that all sounds such as emergency vehicles and horns honking will be blocked out and that you'll become a hazard by not hearing these things. ...But wait "they" let people who are def or with hearing problems drive. What's next?: hearing tests for drivers licenses. "When headphones are outlawed only outlaws wear headphones..."They" can stick it in their ear!"
  • Florida, both ears cannot be covered....but that doesn't stop anyone. I haven't seen or heard of anyone being ticket for lack of common sense
  • Yes it is illegal to drive while wearing headphones... in most states wearing them on any ear is illegal. There are many reasons for this. 1. To protect your safety, because your ability to hear things is lessoned . You maybe unable to hear a car with a certain horn warning you, to try to prevent an accident ect. 2. Your hearing being impaired because your ears are covered with a headphone set with music whether its blasting or not , may prevent you from hearing the the sirens for the ambulance or police to get out of the way in emergencies. Being able to hear them sirens at the soonest time is safer than at the last minute. 3. You really don't want to upset a police officer whos trying to pull you over in the broad day light or if your car sits lower and your unable to see there lights. If your radios blasting into your ears you may not beable to hear there sirens. But within my experience the police are already upset if you don't pull over to there lights. ( You don't want to get mistakened as someone whos trying to flee an officer of the law) With that my recommendations is if you want to beable to listen to music while u drive and can not afford a radio or cd player in your car. You can go ghetto and wait for the lights to hear someone elses radio, which i wouldn't recommend bangin' your head to the beats, because you'll look ridiculous. My best advice is to pick up a wire that connects from your handheld cd player to your ciggarate lighter in your car. If your lighter doesn't work you may be able to get away cheap by simply buying a fuse for it . You can locate your fuse box usually underneath your steering wheel on the floor or on the side of your steering wheel dash infront of your door.... if its not there its somewhere around your drivers side. Please don't use a headphone set while driving because your not only taking the chance of messing up your automobile or life, but everyone else on the road too.
  • no and yes the yes part is if you are listenig throuh both ears if only lisnig throug one ear then no
  • Wearing headphones, while driving, fits the same category as people who talk on cellphones and attempt to drive. people become engrossed in the music and their driving defenses faulter. this is why auto speakers were invented. so drivers could concentrate on the road. deaf drivers are allowed to drive, simply because the lack of one sensation dramatically enhances the remaining sensations. its called focusing. end
  • It is illegal to impede your ability to hear a siren inside a closed vehicle from two blocks away. That includes playing loud music over open speakers, or wearing a headset, including having a loud exhaust system.
  • My second answer. in some states, including tennessee, you can drive an automobile and be completely deaf. i can only assume that driving with headphones, would fall into this category, along with cellphones. Some people can operate a motor vehicle, while using cellphones or headphones. some people cannot. some loose their focus on driving their automobile and thus, a crash. Distractions come in many forms, while driving. its up to the individual driver to know his capapbilities. if headphones or a cellphone is diverting your attention from your driving, then eliminate this activity.

  • In California, you can't drive with headphones on per Vehicle Code section 27400: A person operating a motor vehicle or bicycle may not wear a headset covering, or earplus in, both ears. The doesn't apply to emergency vehicles, a person engaged in construction equipment for highway maintenance, a garbage collector, noise attenuators, or prosthetic devices to help the hard of hearing.
  • In california, specific laws exist prohibiting there use while driving altogether. However, in most states where no laws expressly prohibit such action, they may be used IF under the following conditions as set by law: 1: Do not impede the ability of the operator of a motor vehicle to conduct activities compliant will all applicable motor vehicle laws. 2: Do not impede the ability of the operator of a motor vehicle to hear a warning (such as a siren) of an approaching emergency vehicle. 3: Present a visible reproach of the ability of the driver to respond to any legal traffic signal.
  • In the state of Texas it is
  • I am studying a foreign language. I find it useful, during my commute, to listen to the language files (I have a small mp3 player) during my long commute. These are not at all distracting, and there are long pauses between phrases (for you to repeat). I play them at low volume. It turns out that in Washington the fine for headphones is $124. The headphones are comfortable and I can hear around them just fine. The ear plug are legal, but impede my hearing and are painful to wear. However, I found a solution. I can drive while holding a small speaker up to my ear. It doesn't seem quite as safe or comfortable as the headphones.
  • No. in Tennessee, you can be stone deaf and still drive an automobile. I do not agree with this law. but, i just enforce the law, not make them. People driving with cellphones is a distraction enough. driving with headphones is super dangerous.
  • Can these idiots be serious ? It's not a matter for voting or poll taking. It's stupid and unsafe. As is using a cell phone whilst driving.
