Help answer this question below.
Yu-Gi-Oh can be classified Japanese Animation or "Anime" (Anime means Animation in Japanese). As many of us know, Anime is becoming increasingly common, and its growth rate is especially high in the US.
Those people you heard were probably referring to its high popularity now. They were most likely figuratively calling it "mind control", not literally. To some, Yu-Gi-Oh and animation like it seem to be "every where". Many participate in large events dealing with the Cards so predominant in the show, and seem to get immersed into the "culture" that these shows now seem to be creating, "mind control" to the people you heard.

Sorry if this didn't help much, hope it did though!
Nowadays, nearly every radical thing comin' out is Japanese! I swear!! Kids(especially me and my friends) and adults are all obsessed with the games, the anime, and the manga! SO, some people not to mention any names...( Thomas L. Friedman) are saying that Japan will take over the world. Big FAT LIE! Anyways, it wouldn't be too bad if they did....

You're reading When the show Yu-Gi-Oh! aired on US television, I heard some people call it a form of "Japanese mind control"? What did they mean by that?
