Pitbulls and Rottweilers are two known breeds of dog that are categorically untrustworthy with children and are volatile by their nature.

"Oh I own a Rotty and she/he is the sweetest thing!" Well then YOUR Rottweiler is the exception to the rule.

These types of dogs should not be anywhere near a child. They were bred for battle, war, and to kill. It surprises the hell out of me when people are "shocked" because a dog breed that was bred to be an accelerated and efficient killer...kills!

To find out how the Pitbull was used and what it was bred for, read more here: http://www.pitbull411.com/history.html

On the one hand, specific training for both the dog and the owner will help to "minimize" such events and make the dog more friendly and more peaceful ... but since this sort of dog breed has been crossbred and designed to be a killer dog of war, the dog's killings can only be reduced, minimized, and held back awaiting orders ... the killings can not be eliminated completely.

If this type of dog is to be near small children and babies, then the dog's master (a trained adult) MUST also be there to supervise, monitor, and control the dog. The dog and a baby are not to be left together without proper supervision. By itself, the dog is NOT a baby sitter, it is a baby killer.

Pitbulls and babies are a bad mix. We hear so many stories about them attacking babies and household pets, and yet people still ask this question. The answer is obvious: have one or the other, but don't have both. Unless you like high drama and funerals.

DISCLAIMER: Any medium to large dog (over 30lbs) is potentially deadly and you own one at your own risk.

Having said that, a pitull always seems to be singled out in these "morbid" attacks, the matter of the fact is:

Pitbulls pass the well behavior test with amazing scores 90%
Pitbulls should never be aggresive towards humans as this was bred out.
Pitbulls were bred to fight OTHER DOGS, and were famous NANNY dogs.
Pitbulls make horrible guard and watch dogs, as people often walk over to their houses, snap on a liesh and steal them.

The only reason why "pitbulls" are so dangerous in today is the variety of the mixes of "pit" type dogs. They have mixed the purebred with different breeds like: Tosa Inu, a fighting and guard dog (bred to take down dogs and humans alike), Dogo Argentino (bred to take down wild boars), Presa Canario (Bred to hunt and kill large animals), Neopolitan Mastiff (Bread to take down humans "guard dog"), etc.
Just look at the difference between a nice purebred pitbull to a nasty mutt.
    purebred pitbull
    40-60lbs
    medium sized, athletic.
    http://www.crka.info/pitbull.jpg
    Mutt
    80-120+ lbs
    bulky, overly muscular.
    http://images02.olx.com/ui/2/69/46/25266346_2.jpg

DISCLAIMER: Leaving a child, baby, toddler, etc; with any dog is potentially deadly, do at your own risk.

I personally own a pitbull, a purebred pitbull, i have never once witnessed him show any kind of aggresion towards a human. I have two daughters, a baby and a toddler, and he loves them, he takes the ear-pulling, excessive hugging, tail pulling/stomping, eye poking etc; without breaking a sweat.

Having said everything, nobody should ever leave any kind of dog with a young baby, or toddler. I read in the news a couple years ago how a little 5lbs pomeranian dog mauled a 6month old baby to death while the father was showering, just because he thought it was cute to leave both together as "siblings" in a crib.

Not to hijack your thread, but:

My sister's dog who is part Pitbull attacked and bit a three year old boy in the neck and face and she intends to keep it, even though she has small children of her own. I feel like, as an adult, I should intervene. What should I do?

I had a pit bull when my daughter was a baby. Even though my dog was a sweetie and gentle, I never let him loose in the same room as her, made him were a muzzle when he around her, and he wasn't allowed upstairs - ever - where the bedrooms and family room were. Every door had tall gates. That lasted until she started walking; when even with all these precautions and a great dog, I decided just the potential for harm to her meant that he had to go to a new home. Better safe than sorry.

That person should not be breeding.

That, in my opinion, is a form natural selection. Just a little chlorine in the gene pool.

Do you think pit bulls are bad?All dogs are animals,no dog or any animal should be around a child unsupervised. If you have children and a pet,it is the parents responsibility to supervise at ALL times.Don't blame the dog, blame the owner!

I really don't understand how people can be so ignorant. All pitbulls are not aggressive! I have three they are well trained and well socialized and are the best dogs I have ever owned. If you are unstable and ignorant and you get a puppy (any breed) chances are that puppy is going to grow up with serious issues.

Why would you leave ANY breed of dog unattended with an infant?

If a golden retriever bites a man what happens? You don't hear that on the news do you?
But if a Pit bites a man he's all over the news spreading panic to everyone.

Its not that Pitbulls are all aggresive, its got to do with their breeding and upbringing.
A lot of them are bred to keep strangers from the home, they're the ones you need to watch out for.
But really, would you leave any dog near your newborn baby?

They've figured that the reason it's so often babies is, their height - no kidding a baby
making noise smelling of milk and food being in close proximity to one of these dog's is an invitation for disaster, Plus the baby is making noise sometimes crying and this ca 'set-off' one of these dogs. I personally have experience of my G/F's niece having her face torn to pieces. And I called the house where it happened and everyone was
so very upset. I had a Neighbors Pit-Bull attack me...but brought my knee into his chest as he jumped for my neck. It connected perfectly and he did a 180 degrees which gave me time to get away,,,So sad when innocent kids get hurt.

You can't have an alpha dog without an alpha master. Too many human betas are getting alpha personality dogs, generally for image. Then the dog runs the house, and that leads to problems.

I'm with Judge Brown on it. Here in California pitbulls are the ones everyone wants. I walk downtown and everyones got a pitbull on a leash or sometimes not on a leash. There are alot of ads in the classifieds here for pitbull puppys some make between $200-400 per puppy on them by selling them. I think this family was probably one of those familys who believe there dog would never kill there newborn and that he is friendly and only humans are to blame for why pitbulls are agressive and not the breed. There is even a save the pitbull website a user on here directed me too stating the same thing.
Those type of breeds were breed for one purpose only and that is to fight and to kill. That is why there chest is large to obsorb impact when they bump chests and to have muscle strength to take down there opponent. The jaw is wide and square in order to lock down and have a firm grip on soft tissue.

You will always, always have animal lovers defend the breed and in turn you will always have tragic cases such as this.

Hi, I know of 3 kids in my life that have been bitten - mauled by pit-bulls, My Theory is : The children's faces and height is so close to a pit-bulls head that noises, screams
even the smells of food are in such close proximity to their own it's only a matter of timing and maybe a normal move to us:might be seemingly aggressive to an already unstable animal. My Ex's niece had 1/2 her face ripped-off by a pit-bull, the Mom was a dog Groomer and I had phoned up there right after the attack and The Grandfather who I knew as a very strong Country man, was reduced to blubbering and sobbing over
this, She had to have countless re constructive operations...with more still to come as she ages...Denver has a Ban on them - which can be gotten around with a $500.00
a year permit cost and a bunch of other loops they need to go through. My Apt. complex is under new Management , which now doesn't allow them. I was attacked by my neighbors Pit-bull, But I was partial to blame - since I cam from my house and simply walked through his yard, Well, the dog WAS on a chain as he leaped for my throat I brought my knee up catching him in the center of his chest...He did a full
360 Degrees but surprised him long enough for me to safely get away.Get this - Later, his wife claimed to see it all from the kitchen window and said I went over to the tree and was teasing the dog! lol Right.
Keep kids away from several breeds of dogs - Google "dogs that bite the most"

Narrow minded people think that the pit bull breed is bad. My lab was very aggressive, my pit is the very sweet. All dog breeds have aggression issues not just pit bulls, theres more little dogs that bit they just don't report it on the news!!!!!!!!!!! You are safer leaving your child with your family pit then your chihuahua. It disgusts me to know how many people are close minded, and ignorant people are

Dogs are very territorial animals, and they need just as much attention as they got before the baby was around or they will resent the baby. That's why I plan on getting a dog after I have a baby.

I think it is generally okay, because pitbulls aren't aggressive by nature, it's their owners that teach them to be that way. But on the other hand, dogs do tend to get jealous when there is something or someone else there that would cause their owners to give them less attention than before, if they have a newborn baby. But if you have a pitbull around young children and it has never acted aggressive or mean before, it should be okay, just remember to be cautious.

Well, since pitbulls have that uncontrollable instinct, they must not be left alone near a baby or any person which could be potential victims. To avoid this unwanted incident, it is best that you should keep your pitbull away or caged. If it did happen to me, I would have used my electronic dog repellent, it has a discomforting but not harmful high frequency sound (20,000Hz-25,000Hz), audible to dogs but not to humans. And, the second is a super bright LED flashing strobe that temporarily blinds and confuses the dog. Helps stop the approach of unwanted dogs up to 40 feet. Also has a training setting. Requires on 9 volt battery. Can be used as a flashlight.
