Goldfish will usually spawn in the spring when the water temperatures rise and there are more hours of daylight. They prefer to spawn in heavily planted areas near the surface. During spawning the male will vigorously chase the female and push her to the surface where they will release their eggs and milt together. The tiny, individual eggs will attach to whatever they touch. I've actually had goldfish spray eggs up onto the hood of the aquarium where they dried up and died. I salvaged what eggs I could from the rest of the tank using a turkey baster and put them in a breeding net to develop. In an aquarium you can try increasing the number of hours of light and slightly raise the temperature. In a pond they will spawn when the conditions are right. Mine have been chasing each other around for the last week.
