I think he should see the dentist, there might be some old food stuck and it will get infected in his mouth. Make sure he also cleans his tongue and flosses.
Halitosis can be caused by a variety of sources. Here is a link, and I'm sorry if some of the details under "causes" are a little gross.

There are many solutions, some of them natural (parsely is a natural breath cleanser, also mint) and some of them chemical based such as dental chewing gums, some breath mints, and others. He might also want to switch to a baking soda and peroxide tooth paste and rinse with a peroxide/water mix. Best wishes to you both!
It could be from sinus drainage. That's what causes mine.
It's an internal problem.

It's probably periodontal disease. There's only two ways to get rid of that. He can get something called a scale and deplaning. This is done by an oral surgeon. What they do is cut the gums exposing more of the tooth and then they scape away the plaque. This will cause your tooth to look longer; like billy bob teeth. It costs in the neighborhood or 4-5K. I have to pay that much to have billy bob teeth?. No thanks. The other way is to have those teeth removed and get a partial plate.
Either bad teeth or intestinal problems. He should see a dentist first then maybe a doctor.
He probably has a tooth infection. Bad breath is the result of odor from bacteria.
Bad breath is not always a mouth disorder, its sometimes related to your stomach.Foul smell rise up your wind pipe up to mouth if there is some disorder in stomach .Get the correct diagnosis done.
