Tape worms have been around a lot longer than adhesive tape. Tape used to mean a narrow woven strip, such as you would weave on a tape loom and use for purposes such as weaving chair seats or making suspenders.

My best guess was that the long, narrow, segmented worm resembled coarse woven tape. They do stick to the gut at one end, but that is because of hooks in their mouths, not adhesive.

yes. things that come out of the rectum are usually sticky to some degree.
