Take digital images of the damaged spots, include a ruler so the size of the damage is visible.
Email the image to every upholsterer in your neck of the woods. Someone will know someone who knows someone who did know someone who married a leather expert - who can give you and idea of the extent of damage.
Oh, and when you find him, ask him if he can repair the leather binding on my family bible? (My earlier question.)
