If you seriously have a sore throat, I'd be gargling with either warm saturated salt water, or apple cider vinegar. Especially the vinegar. Works.
Cayenne pepper would be preferable to Listerine, for me.
I'm gonna go with Listerine.

I had a sore throat and I did the whole salt water w apple vinegar thing, but it didn't do me any good. I ended up trying Listerine burned and irritated my throat more! Then I tried warm water cayenne pepper with a salt water gargle afterwards, and that helped abit. I ended up going to docs got a antibotic shot plus, oral antibotics 1500 amoxcillian a day & 600 mg ibuprofen pills, plus, claritin prescription to take. Worse throat infection, I ever had. UGH!!!

You're not supposed to mix the salt with the vinegar, it's either or. That sounds like a real bad infection, glad it's cleared up.

LOL In the end, I was doing anything I could think of!
It was my fault for allowing my allergies to run wild for close to a month. By the time I tried to redeem myself, it was too late and the off/on nasal drip had done it damage to my throat.
It wasn't pretty.
