Remove the food that appears to be growing. Clean with vinegar and put an open box of baking soda on the bottom shelf.

Old coffee grounds in a sock,,it actually works,,you'd be surprised how well..

We stored a fridge for more than 2 years(don't ask me why,but we did)and kept a sock full of old grounds in both the fridge and freezer,,it didn't have any bad smell at all after all that time.

    Go figure.

Try old coffee grounds, put some in a few small bowls and change them every so often until the smell is gone. Good way to recycle too.

*If you got to ask ...its time for a new one!*

(of course i jest, just try some baking soda and/or something with amonia; if the refrigerator is not in use, i would unplug it and clean it, after which leaving the door open for a few days to air out with a box of baking soda left in)

After trying everthing I could think of to get rid of the odor of rotten chinese food I finally sprayed the entire interior of my fridge with Febreze and left it to dry. It worked really well.
