Help answer this question below.

I've put videos from my digital camera on my windows PC.When playing in iTunes,the picture lags but no probs when I use VLC media player.

    Well yeah, since everything made by Apple, sucks. Including iTunes, QuickTime.. they are all just so poorly designed, and absolutely useless.
    Few years ago, Apple actually had a live feedback visible on each of their's product page. 90% of feedback was serious complaints, like "my son really liked it, so I bought it, but comes out, it can't play any movies at all! I want my 50$ back!". And after viewing 3 pages of complaints, Apple's website displayed a message to me: "you are not allowed to view any more" or something like that. So, keep away from Apple and anything else that is related to Linux, unless you are an owner of a server. They are just not ready to come out from their caves yet.
