Socket 754 is the next generation socket AMD processors will use. The processors for this socket use 64 bit processing rather than 32 bit like most processors this means that 64 bit prgrams can be run taking full advantage of the registers on these processors. There is also a Socket 940 for AMD processors. For general use these processors are not worth their money but once a 64 bit version of windows is released and windows compatible 64 bit applications become more mainstream then these processors will be worth it. Plus AMD says they will eventually completely convert over to Socket 754/940.
