No. When I joined the 7th Fleet the sailors all said that time at sea went by quickly. Except for times I had a girlfriend ashore, it did.

I joined the Navy for the oldest and most traditional reason of all ... I wanted "to see the world", and I did. I have been to more than 40 foreign countries and have literally gone around the world (twice, once in each direction). Certainly long periods at sea were not the greatest part, but for me at least, it was more than worth it to get to travel. Having never been in a state penitentiary, I cannot compare, although I have to imagine the company in the Navy was better, and anyone who compares modern military service to slavery doesn't have the faintest clue what actual slavery was like.
