  • I also had this problem with my 96 Chevy Silverado, and I needed a new compressor.
  • I did my 1996 Blazer and it's working great. Yeah, the compressor is most likely bad by now but before you install a new/rebuilt one you need to clean the airlines and change the brush like filter that fits in the airline below the condenser. After you take off the airlines and condenser you'll see a short numb sticking out of airline and you need to remove it with a needlenose plier. That's the brush like filter I was talking about and they get all gunked up especially if you've fried a compressor. The lines can be blown out with a compressed air nozzle and some air conditioning line cleaning fluid. Spray the cleaning fluid in the line and then hit it with the compressed air. The lines just have to be reasonably clean but that brush is the real big problem. Mine was packed solid with metal fragments. Of couse you need a set of seals for the airlines. Just puttin on the compressor without the other things is useless and may even blow out any new compressor. I was quoted $1200+ to do the above job. After you get it all back together just take to the garage for charging.
  • i had the same problem and was a conector of the compresor you have to check it
  • some times if you over charge your ac on your car it won't start. If it does it will cut on and off. This happens because there is a pressure switch that protects the ac compressor when it has too much or not enough freon. check to see if the compressor turns on and if it does check the suction line the one that is the coldest. if it gets cold and then turns off the pressure switch could be the problem. that means it could have too much freon or it may not work. but if it does attach the ac manifold to the suction line and bleed a little. some time you have to disconect the pressure switch then put it back. you might want to try that first.
  • It could also be a refrigerant leak. Loosely, its refrigerant which carries the heat from inside the cab to outside of the car. If there is a rupture in the A/C seal or hose, it will cause the refrigerant to leak out and not blow cold air
