After reading all 9 scripts (yes there are 9 of them) the producers agreed that episodes 4, 5, and 6 were better stories and had the potential to make money more so than episodes 1,2, and 3.

As I understand it, the entire series of movies (all 6) were originally ONE script. The producers who agreed to help him get started, refused to make a movie of that length (it would have been over 7 hrs long) and told him to pick a starting point. He chose "A new hope-Episode 4" as a starting place because he thought it was the most interesting place to start at the time. If you have the special editions, released a few years ago, each movie starts with an interview of Lucas talking about all this stuff..... Now, to prevent a rating of "complete Moron", It has been a while since I watched all that, but I do seem to remember Lucas talking about the original script including the entire story. dman1121, you say Im wrong but provide no proof of it. Dont discount my answer without backing up your statement.

now this is just what i figure and had no proof from anything else.... but i figure they started with 4 because of the whole luke and leia being siblings thing... the fact that vader is their father also is hidden in that trilogy if you start with 4... if you were to watch 1,2, and 3 then 4 5 and 6 would be kinda pointless since the main plot twists are the fact that leia and luke and vader are all related..... on the other hand .... watching 4, 5 ,and 6 first leaves you with questions... how and why .... idk lol that was confusing

because if people watched episode 4,5, and 6 first and it was fun they would like to wtch 1,2, and 3 to get the whole story.

Simply put, the classic trilogy was more marketable as a traditional story of good vs evil. Imagine if 1,2 and 3 were made first between 1977 and 1983. Although they are Star Wars films I can't imagine them inspiring the audience like 4,5 and 6 did.

One of the reasons was that episodes 4, 5, and 6 had easier scenes to film. Most importantly, they had less CGI scenes. This was important because CGI was not that advanced when they were doing 4, 5, and 6. When CGI became way better, they were able to make episodes 1, 2, and 3. One example of technical difficulties was the character of Yoda. In 4-6, Yoda was played by a man in a costume. In 1-3, Yoda was all CGI, which allowed him to jump around like crazy on episode 2.

It was never meant to be a series, but because of the capital gain, Lucas decided it was time to make more.

because it required less special effects(they didnt have the technology then, but Lucas new that he would have them in about 20 years) than the other two triligies, and Mr Lucas thought it was a nice place to start from.(he originally wanted to make all 9 in 1 movie, the producers did not agree, the movie would be over 16 hours long)immagine them trying to do the podracing, yoda's fight scenes,Obi won riding that lizard thingy, general greviuos, the clones and stuff like that in the 1970's? it would be very difficult.

Because the story was originally supposed to be about Luke but then people wanted to find out how Darth Vader because there are hints in the movie that Darth Vader used to be a jedi named Anakin Skywalker.
