What are the tax implcations of exercising stock options and selling the resulting shares?

    I can answer for Canadians: The net profit (sell price - strike price) x number of shares is taxed as a capital gain (just as if you bought the shares yourself at the strike price and sold them when you did).

    The only difference is that you cannot use capital losses (from other investments) to offset gains on stock options.
