When I removed a name tag from my black leather (not suede)jacket the tag left a dull spot on the jacket, almost like it removed the finish.

Also be sure to keep all flammable object away from your shoes if you do decide to use Kerosene on your shoes. Otherwise, you could end up with some very "hot feet".
