    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

The phrase "equally yoked" comes from a passage of the Bible. 2nd Corinthians 6:14 reads: "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?" (King James Version). Many conservative Christians interpret this verse as saying that Christians should not marry non-Christians. Therefore, equally yoked could be taken to mean a marriage between two Christians who share the same beliefs.

It means more than just having the same spiritual or religious beliefs. It also means in everyday life as well. For instance; my ex-husband and I are both Christians. I believed at the time we were evenly yoked because we attended the same church and were of the same faith so I married him. What a mistake. We were at two different ends of the spectrum when it came to raising children, jobs, money and even our spiritual beliefs. Example; I believe in a God that is merciful and he believes in a judgemental, full of wrath God, I believe children shouldn't be forced to eat everything on their plates, he believed it to be a sin if you didn't eat everything on your plate, I believed in freedom in Christ, he believed in forced values of Christ, I believe in using money wisely, he believed in spending ridiculously, i believe in giving freely according to my heart, he believed in a 10 percent tithe, an offering and alms which drove us to the poor house....and the list goes on and on and on.

When choosing a spouse all I can say is choose wisely and know beyond a shadow of a doubt what evenly yoked really means.

basically it means carrying more of a load(to whatever end) than the other that you're bound to, whether in marriage or business. For the religious they interpret it to mean not being bound to one who has a different set of ideals than you.
