Look at the ink light on the printer. A blinking light indicates that you will soon need ink, and a solid light indicates that you must replace it.
Open the printer's cover, and press the "Ink" button, which is identified with an icon of a drop of liquid. The printer's carriage will move to line up the empty ink cartridge with the "Ink Out" mark on the printer's case. Open the cover that is over the cartridges, and take the empty one out by pinching its back tab and lifting directly up.
Shake the new cartridge four or five times, and remove it from its sealed package. Place it into the cartridge without touching the green circuit board. It will gently click into place. Close the cover, and press the "Ink" button.
