I have a Nikon coolpix 4200. The battery in it is a "Lithium Ion battery pack EN-EL5 3.7 V 1100mAh" battery. In order to keep the longest battery life, should I let the battery die, or is it ok to recharge before it dies?

Depends on hof often you use it. If you use your battery regularly, you should not fully discharge it. However, if you rarely ever use it, you should do a full discharge-recharge cycle once a month. Not using Li-Ion-batteries can have adverse effects on them.
