    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

Patchouli is a tropical plant that gives off a characteristic odor when handled. It can rot or spoil like any foliage. More popular is patchouli oil, which can go rancid or spoil if it not made to a grade A specification. Dried patchouli incense will not spoil, although the earthy aroma may seem rancid to some people who do not like the scent.
