    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

    Access the Router Setup Page

Most Linksys routers use a setup page accessed through a web browser. The standard default for Linksys routers is 192.168.1.1, and that's what you type in the address bar of Firefox or whatever browser you use to access the Internet. Leave the user name blank; the default password is "admin." If this doesn't work, check the router's instruction manual to verify the correct address for your model.

    Change Settings

Click the "Wireless" tab, then choose "Wireless Security." For "Security Mode," there are several choices. The strongest and most secure is WPA2. Select "TKIP" encryption. Leave "key renewal" set to 3600 seconds.

    Create a Password

In the pass phrase box, enter a password you and other authorized users will need to access the wireless network. The strongest passwords contain a mix of numbers and lower- and upper-case letters. Do not make your password easy to guess. Avoid pet or child names. When you are finished, click "Save." Your wireless network is now encrypted.
