Help answer this question below.
Infectious disease control is pretty good around the world. There have been some very nasty diseases that have come out of Africa, notably the incredibly deadly ebola viruses and we have managed to contain them when the reached US soil. (Monkeys. It's always monkeys.)
With a zombie outbreak the efforts we normally go to would be taken up many notches. It would be contained very quickly because of the insane danger it would present.
Anything is possible, but there are things that are so unlikely that they could easily be deemed impossible.
The human brain is a higly tuned instrument, and if somehting goes wrong in there, anything really could happen, adn out of the number of possibilities of what could happen (almost infinite), havign a virus or bacteria, that would make people into angry and violent cannibals is quite unlikely.
There have been insidences, where trauma to the brain has made people angry, violent, and lacking in self control. That much is true. having a virus do that might be in the realm of possibility also. But having a virus turn people into undestructible, raw red meat eaters, who will not need anything to sustain their existance, is something that would require so much of the human body, that it is jsut so implausible, it could be said to be impossible.
There is craving for certain things, like meat, candy, beer, nicotine, that one could argue that there would somehow be a way to make the human brain crave for food so much, that one would lose all concept of reality and eat anything, anyone, anywhere, anytime, and kill to eat something. But in that sense, a "zombie" like this would kill a person, eat him/her, and then die of over eating. This is so higly implausible that I find it impossible. The craving for food would have to stop after feeding a bit, as otherwise the zombie would just burst.
In order for the zombie brain to attack people without craving for food, he would also have to be extremely violent.
He would have to lose all fear also, becoming a vegetable in a sense, but his motorskills would somehow be diverted into the control of all these lusts for violence and food. In a sense, to kill off the human brain, and for a virus to take control of the motorskills of this human being.. I feel so silly even typing this down :D There are instances where parasites claim control over the brains of ants, and move them around without the ants concent. That much is reality. The human functions are a bit more complex, but diseases have made people turn into semothing they are not, but i don think there have been any nistances of people being turned into rabid dogs ni a massive scale by a disease.
And finally, there are people who are insane. They are dangerous to society and are locked up in mental facilities, where they live out their days in unknown realms of existance of the conciousness. In taht sense, zombies do exist.
But to have a zombie epidemic is quite implausible, because if anything can happen, then this one particular event of becoming reality is quite far fetched, and you should not expect it any more than you should expect collapsing and dying in the next 5 seconds.
I don't think this will happen. i have seen the zombie movie, i had nightmares. lets hope it doesn't happen
