Some of them might close for specific reasons...holidays, police investigations, out of business, etc.

If you build a retail establishment and lease it to a business, you will put a lock on the door even if it is a 24-hour operation. The next tenant might have limited hours. If you own a business that operates 24 hours you might decide to reduce hours in order to cut expenses. In that case, having locks on the doors will come in handy.

Only a few businesses, such as the famous restaurant "The Pantry" in LA, have doors without locks.

HELLO?!?!?!? 24/7 MEANS open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Now, WHEN is there extra time?!?!?

If an establishment is CLOSED for ANY length of time, (in other words, ANY length of time)--it is NOT by definition open 24/7!!!!!!

That's like me saying that I work SEVEN days a week--but I'm off on the weekends!!!!!!!!!!

even a store that is open 24 hours a day, will often close once, twice maybe even three times in any given year to renovate, clean, install new fixtures, and or additions, etc. Plus if there were an emergency you wouldn't want to have to leave the store unattended

Because there are time when the facility must be locked down. For example: the facility should be locked immediately after a robbery or when, if it only has a single employee, they must go to the restroom or other area of the facility where they cannot see customers entering and leaving.

Even 24 hour shops sometimes close, maybe for Christmas for example. And what if power or water is lost for an extended period and the utiliy company says it'll take hours to repair. There's no point in staying open, so then lock the doors. Interesting question.

  • In case they need to lock the doors of course. . .

There are many reasons why they might need to actually close and thus lock the doors. A couple of examples:

-Weather related problems (think hurricane season in FL)

    -Holidays, inventory days, or repair/remodeling

Open 24 hours doesn't always mean they are also open 365 days a year :)

There is a gas station near my house that is locked after a certain time, even though it is open 24 hours. I think it is to protect the cashier or something. It's probably also mandatory by law. There are sometimes also holidays like Christmas where the store is actually closed, even if it would be open for 24 hours on a regular day. Why leave it unlocked then? That would be an attraction for shoplifters.

The fact that they work 24/7 normally doesn't mean they don't have holidays or occasional short brakes.

Not to mention - most doors have locks, even ones that don't need them...

Because there are occasions they do have to close such as hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, floods, and blackouts. You don't want those looters having a field day do you.
