A "Cafe" bike is a certain type of street bike. They are also called "Cafe Racers". It refers to a type of motorcycle that was first produced in the late 60's, really popular in the 70's, and even today. It is a bike that looks like a standard, and rides like a sport bike... (modern sport bike riders will disagree.) They were bikes that could be bought at a dealership and raced on the track on the weekends. Generally they have those little rounded fairings with the tiny rounded windshields, and no other bodywork. Engine configurations are all over the place, from in-line 4 cylinders to v-twins. They were the true predecessors of todays sport bikes. Most major manufacturers offered at least one model, and they are in the 350cc and up category. Most were 650cc and above. Bigger is faster in the bike world, ya know.

Look on ebay at Kaw's KZ series or Honda's CB and CF series from the late 60's to the early 70's. Suzi's mid 70 to early 80 GS series. This will give you an idea of what a Cafe bike looks like.

Cafe racer is typically a "naked" lightweight kinda bike. I believe the term came out of Europe someplace where the young and adventerous would gather at cafes at the bottom of top of a mountain track. Insults, boasts and claims were exchanged and guys would race to backup or trash down those statements. Here's the best explanation for the term "cafe racer" hands down. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cafe_racer
