    Good question.

The western empire fell effectively due to corruption and an excessive welfare state. Or in my opinion it did.

The Eastern empire finally fell due to an attack from Christians during one of their crusades.

there were a number of reasons, amongst which were, the empire had become too big, the empire's inhabitants lived by lust, and material satifaction. ( look at america). The empire had become decadent in all values.
