    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

Insert Cord into Back of Modem

Insert one end of an Ethernet cord, which resembles a thick phone cord, into the back of the modem. Your Internet service provider installed the modem when he came to set up your internet. Insert the other end into the back of your router and plug in the device into an power outlet. You can purchase a router at office supply stores. If you purchased a new router, connect via an Ethernet cord and follow the instructions that came with your router. Remove the Ethernet cord. Click on the globe and computer icon, located in the bottom right corner of the desktop. Select "Connect to a Network." Change the Show drop-down box to "Wireless." Select your connection and click "Connect." Check the "Save this Network" box and click "Close."

    Connect Laptop

Connect your laptop to the modem with an Ethernet cord by inserting one end into the modem and the other end into the laptop. Right-click on the computer with globe icon. Click "Connect to a Network." Select your connection and press "Connect." Click "Close."
