Since Jar Jar was only considered "racist" by uninformed, race-card mongers with no one else to point the finger at that week, then by and large, neither is Avatar... If we're going to find those examples racist, why not find hobbits Size-ist, or Gandalf Age-ist. The ists have and always will be news worthy... But valid, not really. George Lucas hardy intend the saga of Star Wars to down play or demean any race, nor does he - I think - have any such agenda. Real racism and discrimination is abhorrent, and it is much easier to detect... No one can mistake it nor is left asking "Was that racism?"

Avatar was beautiful, by the way... ;)

I don't regard either of them as racist, racism is *hating* someone on the basis of their ethnic background, not mocking or impersonating them, but actually denigrating them as inferior for that one reason alone.
In my own life, I have known a considerable number of people from different ethnicities to my own, and the ones I didn't like were those who most often played the race card in order to get their own way, which in a sense is racist behaviour in and of itself.

Not at all, in fact totally the opposite. The humans (mostly white, American) were the bad guys and the indigenous people were the good guys. The only thing Avatar was guilty of is recycled storylines.

watch Princess Mononoke..it has a similar plot to Avatar. Nothing racist in that at all.
It just goes to show that people see what they want to see and believe what they want to believe.

Avatar was guilty of doing nothing more than using a venerable plot device, of the outsider coming in and doing things better than the people who were there already. There are countless films with this plot, including all those where the parent and child swap bodies, films like Trading Places, and those movies where a secretary can do things better than her boss, and saves the company.

With such a stellar reputation do you honestly think James Cameron would put out an overtly racist movie? Or even covertly? Why would he risk his career for such a stupid exercise? Why not remake "The Birth Of A Nation" if he wanted some controversy?
