Can I hook up 8-ohm speakers to a 4-ohm amplifier?

    Yes, you can hook up 8-ohm speakers to a 4-ohm amplifier, but not the reverse. With higher impedance speakers, the amplifier will not output as much power as it would with the rated impedance. Running a lower impedance speaker than the amplifier is rated for, on the other hand, will demand more current than the amplifier can source. This creates distortion, overheating and possible failure.
