I purchased a KP-51WS500 Sony TV in 2002 and the closed captioning will not turn off, even though the TV settings say it is off. What can be done?

If you use a cable box or a satellite receiver, chances are it's turned on on those units.

If not, go to your tv menu, and set to stereo or a similar setting for audio. Do not set on SAP. If it's on SAP, turn this off and your troubles should be over.

Just to state the obvious, when you turn off close captioning, hit the enter or ok button. If you just leave the menu without hitting one of these buttons it may not save your settings.

hope this helps. Let me know.
