Remove rust gently using baking soda and a potato. Slice a potato in half and dip it in baking soda. Rub on the rust as if you were sanding the surface. Continue until all rust is gone.
Make a thick paste in a small bowl using baking soda and water if there is heavy rust on the can. It should be similar to the consistency of toothpaste. Apply the paste directly to the rust. Allow it to sit for an hour, and then rub with the potato coated in baking soda. Wipe clean with a soft cloth.
