    Rockwood is located at (35.869147, -84.675176). It sits in a valley just south of the Crab Orchard Mountains. Access to Interstate 40 is also to the north.

    The town lies on the Eastern side of the Central Time ZoneCentral/Eastern Time ZoneEastern time zone line.

    According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 20.6 km sq (7.9 mi sq). 20.4 km sq (7.9 mi sq) of it is land and 0.1 km sq (0.1 mi sq) of it (0.63%) is water.
