Find a stud in the ceiling with a stud finder. Look for one closest to a window or door, so the plants get plenty of sunlight. If you don't hang your planter in a stud in a textured ceiling, you risk ripping a hole in the plaster from the weight of the planter.
Drill a narrow hole into the stud with a handheld drill. Drill the hole narrower than the screw of the hanger but wide enough so the screw can grip the edges of the hole. Stand firmly on your ladder, and hold the planter in one hand. Screw in the hanging screw with the other. When the bottom of the eye is flush with the ceiling, let go of the planter. It should hang safely.
