    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

How to Size for a Replacement Shade

Measure the lamp from the bottom of the socket to the base. This gives you the lamp height. Measure the harp. The harp is the curved brass fitting above the socket that ends in a threaded bolt. Measure the width of the lamp base at its widest point.

Calculating the Size of the Shade

The bottom width of the replacement shade should be between the height of the lamp and the lamp harp measurement. The shade should be the height of the lamp harp plus or minus 2 inches. The light bulb of the lamp should never be within 1 inch of the lamp shade fabric. The shape of the shade should match the general shape of the lamp in style.
