    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

A man cannot be recognized on a birth certificate as a child's father without his knowledge or consent. He would typically need to sign an acknowledgment of paternity form and present a valid form of identification to be placed on a birth certificate. However, in many states, a man is automatically presumed to be a child's father if he is currently married to the mother.
