Question

Help answer this question below.

As an Ex-Vegan, I would like to personally apologize on behalf of all vegans and myself. Who's with me? (See more inside.)

I would like to apologize for all the lies, propaganda and brainwashing we spread based on pseudoscience and little more than word of mouth. As a vegan of over eight years, I can say from personal experience that veganism does not work for everyone long term. In fact, it works for very, very few. I apologize for promoting this dangerous diet, for ignoring the facts and evidence that suggests children suffer from it. I apologize for saying anyone who couldn't do it was lazy or 'wasn't doing it right'. I was brainwashed. I'm sorry. Humans need meat to survive. I was wrong. Please, take the advice of someone who has been through it, don't put yourself through it, don't pursue a vegan diet. It is not the end-all of health - and could kill you, as it almost did me.

    Asker's Pick

Selected by the asker, Zombies. (What's this?)

As a lifelong omnivore, welcome back to sanity. And good luck getting those meat digesting bacteria built back up in your gut. Apology accepted.

This is funny. Though I've recently decided to cut down on animal products, I don't think I could ever go vegan. I literally have a love affair with chili cheese fries. And a GOOD quality char rare steak. Can I ask, how was it when you first 'went back'? What was the first animal product you ate and how did it feel? I'm sooooooo curious.

Thank you. Few things are as irritating as a militant vegetarian. That being said it has been proven that red meat is not good for you and reduces your life expectancy unless eaten in moderation. I think the problem with that whole movement has been a lack of moderation. I will neither promote a vegan nor a carnivorous diet but would encourage people to find moderation (and variety) of a diet that lies somewhere in the middle ground.

Everyone's nutritional needs are different. I am a pescatarian for health reasons (can't call myself vegetarian, as I eat fish about twice a month). I do hate how the food industry has gotten, so I have considered going vegan. What stopped me was after all the research I had done, it seemed that I would not be able to afford the vegan supplements that are needed for a vegan diet to actually be healthy. I really think it can be done, but the person considering making this change should plan carefully to make sure they are getting what they need and can afford it. I wouldn't try to convince people not to do it if that's what they believe in, but I do not think health is a good enough reason. "All or nothing" is not a healthy philosophy when it comes to nutrition.

I don't mind vegetarians or vegans until they start telling me my personal choices are not only wrong but immoral.

It's at that point that the non meat eating crowd achieves their plateau of insufferability.

For some people though, it works for them and I'll not knock a person for their personal choices and I'm not owed any apologies.

Hey people can eat what they want to eat. We are actually built for both. I'm not vegan but close to vegetarian (turkey bacon is my weekness cause fake bacon sucks, and I like chicken) mainly because I'm a picky eater. Humans don't need meat to survive as long as they find supplements.

Look, I am a vegan. First off, I think humans should, and can eat meat I simply think its messed up how we get it via factory farms. Second, we are the only species on the planet that eats/drinks dairy products after infancy, there is a reason for that, we are not meant to have it. Eat your meat but be responsible about it, and if you eat a wide varity of fruits and vegetables you will get all the calcium and vitamins you need without dairy. End of story
