Hey motorcycle owners, where do you get off? If my little pickup sounded as loud as your bikes, I'd get a ticket. Put a muffler on it!

"vitriol". Now that's an interesting choice of words, especially since it describes your statement/command. Which isn't really a question at all, in the first place and secondly, if you want to snarl at bikers you had better be prepared to get it thrown right back in your face. In fact, the next time you see a bunch of bikers standing around, why don't you run into the middle of the group and express your concerns, on the level of noise emitted by their bikes, in the same tone and manner that YOU chose to use here ?!? I guarantee you'll get a little more response than you bargained for.
Loud pipes keep us safe by bringing our presence to the attention of the car and "little" truck drivers, who very often have their heads in the clouds and pay more attention to their cell phones and blaring stereos, than they do to the safety of those around them. You might be surprised at how many people say "I didn't see the motorcycle", after they run into one, even though it was lit up like a Christmas tree. For them, I even wear a shirt that has a message written on the back, in big bold yellow print. It says "Can You See Me Now, Asshole ?".
So if you find the sound of my motorcycle offensive to your ears ... turn down your hearing aid and pay attention. You're not the only one on the road.

Okay, a real answer. However, when a bike passes me, going in the opposite direction, I only hear it going away. I hear my neighbor's bike after it has gone 5 miles or more. Is that saving lives? NO!

Right & no.
However, when going the same direction they can make you aware of them being in your blind spot of next to you.

Yes, there is a blind spot. However, if you move over before checking your blind spot, you could also hit a car. So, noise is not a good reason to make a move without looking first.

The "Question" reads more like he's pointing fingers at people with bikes and lecturing us by saying "Put a muffler on it!". The truth is in my answer Big trucks and bikes are expected to be loud if you have a little truck with big sound, well... it's just not right. Any man can tell you that.

Well yes, I am pointing my finger at loud motorcycles. And I do want you to put a muffler on it. It is unnecessary noise. Where do you get the idea that motorcycles are expected to be noisy. As for the safety aspect, I don't see it. I don't think there has been any studies on the subject.

If other drivers where more aware of Bikes on the road there would be no point in having loud pipes. you obviously don't ride, or this conversation would not be happening.

I don't ride now but have in the past. Your argument about safety does not hold water. The federal gov't has forced the makers of cycles to certify that the noise level is within regulations. If you modify the system, it's illegal. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Argue all you want, loud pipes save life's. Do you know how many people pull out in front of bikes because they simply don't look, Resulting in Death or serious injury for the rider? If you hear us coming you will look for us. I am finished with this conversation, you are clearly clueless when it comes to motorcycle safety. My point was made, you don't ride, and have no clue what it's like to be the one cut off being fully exposed. My bike is loud and some Nancy in a woman's truck will not change that. Keep the rubber side down and the pipes straight brothers.

The problem is moron that the only reason I am close enough to knock is because some idiot who does not see me tries to get in my lane. Just because you might see me does not mean the other idiots do as well. God forbide if you ever get on a bike you might cange your tune.
