Download the Ubuntu ISO file from the Ubuntu Home Page (see Resources) to your computer and burn the image to a blank DVD using Windows 7/Vista's embedded program or your favorite ISO burning software.
Determine whether you'd like to install Ubuntu within Windows, so that it can be easily removed through the Control Panel, or as a separate partition from which you can dual-boot your computer. From Windows, place the Ubuntu DVD in the drive. A window will appear asking how you'd like to install Ubuntu. If you'd want to run Ubuntu in Windows, choose the "Install Inside Windows" options; otherwise, click the "Demo and Full Installation" button to install Ubuntu into a partition.
Allow the disc to install Ubuntu on your computer. Whichever way you decide to install Ubuntu, reboot the computer when prompted, then sign in to the Ubuntu operating system.
