    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

Female cockatiel birds do not talk or whistle. However a male cockatiel will talk and whistle. A young male is the most talkative: He will repeat most words and phrases spoken to him or that he hears.

It is very rare for a female to talk or pick up tunes. but about 70% males are talkers and pick up tunes. if you repeat the same word over and over or the same tune they should pick it up. they are smart like that. my male cockatile ( raffi ) can say his name, wolf wistle & laugh. and he is only 6 months and he is now coming up with stuff he hears of tv.

    Hope this helped :-)

My cockatiels did NOT talk, yet they mimic our old washing machine by whistling.
