  • The furthest I could find with free resources is in Canterbury, London in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury Will Index between 1750 and 1800. There's a gap until about the 1840's where a Charles Holmgreen is registered in Shawnee, Kansas according to the 1920 United States Federal Census. Unfortunately, without using a pay service, the Holmgreen surname starts to spread to Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Indiana. Eventually, the name spreads all over the US. If you're interested in learning a bit more or would like to try and do some more research on your own, I recommend RootsWeb.com. There are other great pay services available through the internet like Ancestry.com and Name-Finder.net. Hope that helps ;) -chuck
