You're reading 1997 Ford Explorer brake pedal vibrates and engine will die if I dont pump the brakes?

I'm not kidding. Why would you think that?
The other possibility is that the vacuum hose has become detached from the intake manifold, but pumping the brakes in that situation would not rescue a dying engine.
