  • Aside from things you obviously wouldn't want your children playing with; quick research through the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-4ANI-HELP [888-426-4435]) shows that mothballs, potpourri oils, coffee grounds, homemade play dough, fabric softener sheets, dishwashing detergent, batteries, cigarettes, alcoholic drinks, pennies and hand and foot warmers could be dangerous for your pet. Those are just a few things that I found. If you'd like to see a more complete list, you can visit The Pet Center (http://www.thepetcenter.com/wai/poi_PP.html). Hope that helps ;) -chuck
  • Also, there are many common houseplants that can be VERY toxic to cats. Easter lilies, Sansaverias, rubber plants, umbrella plants, and ivy, just to name a few.
  • Since this is the season - Poinsettias are extremely toxic to cats. And to kill your year-round fun, Eucalyptus is poisonous too.
  • Just a quick addition to the fine answers that have already been given, since I didn't see it - Tylenol, aka acetominophen, is really toxic to cats. In the words of my vet, who specializes in felines: "An extra-strength Tylenol can kill a cat" Here's a link to a website with a chart of common products that felines should just meow "no" to. http://mainecoonrescue.com/poison.html
  • Also, keep your cats away from electical cords, some cats think they are toys and chew through the plastic causing them to get shocked and die. Keep young kittens away from buckets of water, just like you would a child, they can drown, that goes for the toilet, too so shut the lid each time. They also show great interest in plastic bags, but if they get rolled up in one they might not be able to get out, especially if they have no claws.
