If I get a mod chip, could I avoid replacing a faulty DVD drive?

    yes and no. it will not "fix" the dvd drive, but it will allow you to make backups of your games and you can run them off of your hard drive so you don't need to use the dvd drive at all except to let the games be copied.

    That all depends on what is wrong with the DVD player. If you have a bad laser, a mod chip will not fix that problem. Find out whats wrong with dvd, get that fixed first. Some people consider mod chips illegal so you dont want to have the dvd fix after you mod it. I have heard of people actually stripping the mod out because it can not leave their center modded.
