Help answer this question below.
Yes, I did and quite a lot was correct and some was grossly wrong. I did do a request to be removed and they have done so, both for myself and my husband. When I tried to remove more than two things however, they do limit how often you can use an email address to request :(
There is also a petition online somewhere calling for the website to be closed because of it's unique gathering/assembling methods, especially because a lot of the info is wrong when they claim to be correct. I know of one person who signed up for their more complete info and was shocked to find out how wrong things were. It's dangerous to have that stuff out there right or wrong info, as both kinds can do damage to people, personally and business/financially.
Found me. Only about 1/4 of the free info was on there and half that was wrong. Not gonna pay to find out if it gets more accurate, but I bet not.
It appears to not even work for anyone I type in.
Yes, once I got on their website, I immediately got off. The things they do are just horrible :(
There is a way to make your information private, I believe it will still show your name and phone number but your household information will be removed. In the bottom right corner there is a privacy button, you put in your email address and the URL you want to make private and it will leave only the pertinent information. Most of the information they post on that site is incorrect, but just to be safe, I say privatize it! The really strange thing is I can look up names of 2 different people who live in the same house and the information will be totally different, I think they even have a google map of your house next to the information....
Apparently I'm from York and am 18 years old.
The rest of my question has somehow disappeared, so I'll post it in an answer. I have looked up my family on Spokeo and found that they had fictionalized accounts of our lives posted with our real phone, address and names. They had race wrong, they had home value inflated by 5 - 6 times the actual value, they had years in residence wrong, they had ages wrong, they had created fictional children for some of us, they had marital status wrong. They must be employing fiction writers to come up with stuff for fun, but it isn't funny. They bill themselves as "not your grandmother's phone book" and they aren't kidding. My grandmother's phone book only saw the need to provide accurate phone numbers, not post fictional personal data that could create a lot of problems for you.
I just found out about it. I searched my name on Google and the website link was on the first page. I don't like the fact that it has my address correct and it lists my family members. I would enter my email in the privacy link but I've read that it may/may not work. This blows.
Their information for me had the name, address, phone number correct. Beyond that, I think EVERYTHING was erroneous! Be aware that the way these people gather "information" is also how many corporate entities build their marketing programs/plans. Perhaps this explains why so many companies just don't seem to get their products/services geared toward their "real" customers. I hope I removed my info using their "privacy" liink ... or, did I just give them my "real" email address???
I just saw that on the news and that is scary

You're reading Have you found yourself on Spokeo.com? Be advised they are posting fictionalized information about real people.

Where is the petition?
by bagicide stayed 10 months too long on April 30th, 2010
I can't find it now. I tried to google it and found a few petitions but they all have low numbers of signers where the one I saw had many. But I did find this bit of info which I found interesting. The part about being a core business to harvest email addresses struck home what with the 2 I had to use to get the info off their site.

Lovely. So their games is to post wildly fraudulent data so they can get you when you log on to deal with it.

How do I request to be removed from there? I admit that that chilled my blood.
by Arisztid on May 6th, 2010
If you go to their site and look near the bottom of the home page, in the center is the word "Privacy". Click that and it will take you to a page to opt out, just be warned they don't opt you out every well :( I guess they just love making things up about people. I'd make a new temporary email address just to remove yourself instead of using a good one.

They have me on their site under a long, dead mail, one I was stalked under and I have not even used in years. What do you mean "they don't opt you out every well"? I do not want to give headcases more ammo.

I've heard different things by people who have used the privacy thing. It seems to have removed my husband and me as far as I can tell, though if you search in different ways other than name you still come up with info, most not accurate, though. I've read in some reviews of the site that they don't always remove everything they have, so I just don't know. I did my best with them, I guess that's all anyone can do.
