  • It is a common term in the Canadian lexicon and has even been added to the Canadian Oxford Dictionary. In Canada, It is associated with the Tim Horton's chain of doughnut and coffee shops (founded in 1964). I do not know when it came into common use, but it has been around long enough to warrant inclusion in a dictionary. Reply: Celebrity? It is restaurant shorthand that crossed the counter. Restaurant staff use all kinds of shorthand, some of which moves into the public domain on purpose (e.g., entertaining the clientele) or through customers listening and repeating. The same shorthand can spring up in different places at different times, because there are only so many ways you can contract some terms.
