    Great Answer

    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

On One Hand: Not For the Inexperienced

Rebuilding an automatic transmission can be a complex job requiring significant training or experience. There are many parts that may need to be addressed, and even one mistake can cause the transmission not to operate properly.

    On the Other: Cost Savings

Sure, you could save hundreds of dollars by doing it yourself, but a novice runs the risk of bungling the job. That would mean spending even more money to have it done right.

    Bottom Line

This job is better left in the hands of trained professionals unless you're working on an old hobby car for fun. You may have all the eagerness that is required, but in the end you may lack the technical know-how and even the necessary tools for success.
