Time to visit Radioshack.
It would probably be more expeditious to simply replace it. The cable can probably be fixed by replacing the plug however. Radio Shack should have either a replacement cable or replacement plug. Don't bother with the gold plated cables, they are over priced and there isn't any difference sound-wise.
if the center pin is broken/falling out then theres lot a great deal you can do to repair it (permenantly anyway).
if its a moulded connector (ie: you cannot remove or disasemble the casing) your not going to have much luck repairing it.
if you can unscrew or pull the housing off, you might be able to push the pin in place and then glue it back in.
neither of these are great ideas though.
replace the connector completely (if you have soldering equipment) as the connectors are pretty cheap (online, and in electronics stored).
if you dont, then just replace the cable completely. unless its a fancy one there probably pretty cheap too.

Oh. My point is that the parts are inexpensive and even at minimum wage the cost of your labor is worth more than the parts.
If you absolutely insist on fixing this stuff yourself, you generally need to do some light soldering, which means that you need the equipment and a roll of lead based solder with flux in it. (Do not use lead free water line solder. It requires too much heat for what you're doing.)
If you don't have that, new parts are cheaper.
