  • Journal of Discourses Volume 13, Pg 271. BY did state as recorded in speaking of the moon "Do you think it is inhabited? I rather think it is. Do you think there is any life there? No question of it; it was not made in vain. It was made to give light to those who dwell upon it, an to other planets; and so will this earth when it is celestialized." So saith the "prophet" Brigham Young.
  • Wow, that is truly amazing! He actually THOUGHT something that was not accurate. I've got a question for you two. Have you ever thought about why you are so obsessed with the Mormon Church? Could it be that you want to justify in your own minds that it can't possibly be true because you are worried that it might be? I don't know about you guys but when I hear something that is not true I just move on, no big deal. I am sure Jesus thought a lot of religions at the time were wrong but I can't seem to find in the Bible where he obsessed over them. Considering the fact that you are such experts if you would not mind pointing out chapter and verse I would appreciate it. Good luck with overcoming your obsession. My guess is you won't be able to. But, to each his own.
  • I am active in the church. I go to byu. I don't see why people would be offended by questions about their faith. Brigham Young did say that. It was in a church publication called the times and seasons. During a blessing or something. I love the church. I think that you have to hold the things you love to a certain standard by analyzing, debating and questioning. I think it is irrelevant to my faith whether Brigham Young said this or not. In my mind i think he did. I don't like alot of what brigham said but that doesn't mean the church is inaccurate. I consider myself an economist before a mormon. Cost and effect. It is much safer to beleive in God. I'd rather cease to exist as a dead christan than wake up on god's porch a dead atheist.
  • Moving on from something like this, when Brigham Young stated that no word came out of his mouth that wasn't revelation from God as good as scripture simply shows how a Mormon compartmentalizes their critical thinking. You have a man stating that he has this knowledge from divine sources. The knowledge was wrong, therefore the man was a liar. That brings the credibility of the entire organization into question, because this is the SECOND PROPHET of this church! You mean to tell me it had already gone that astray? What else did he lie about? There's no way to know, thats the problem. And so members simply ignore this glaring contradiction, and allow their self induced psychological euphoria they refer to as the Holy Ghost(which can be reproduced easily in any religion, or in non religious circumstances for that matter) keep them hopelessly entrenched in their circular logic and mind numbing doctrine. If you just discount these glaring fallacies, YOU ARE A LEMMING WALKING OFF A CLIFF!
  • "Who can tell us of the inhabitants of this little planet that shines of an evening, called the moon? When we view its face we may see what is termed "the man in the moon," and what some philosophers declare are the shadows of mountains. But these sayings are very vague, and amount to nothing; and when you inquire about the inhabitants of that sphere you find that the most learned are as ignorant in regard to them as the most ignorant of their fellows. So it is with regard to the inhabitants of the sun. Do you think it is inhabited? I rather think it is. Do you think there is any life there? No question of it; it was not made in vain. It was made to give light to those who dwell upon it, and to other planets; and so will this earth when it is celestialized."
