    ERP solution is a management methodology that links business objectives to information systems. It has taken on the association with software suites, built to help manage this methodology. ERP stands for enterprise resource planning.

    Uniformed Processing

    One of the key concepts to the ERP solution is consistency. Standard look and feel to applications, process documentation, and tools are typical, but the key point is uniformed terminology and data definitions to make communications and sharing of information easier.

    Up-to-Date Information

    Another concept in ERP is the real-time processing of business transactions. Data changes are not stored and processed at a later time. Information about the status of the organization is current and accurate on any given day.

    Organizational Goals

    Objectives that can be quantified are part of the ERP data scheme and can be used to compare against actual business results without pulling data from multiple systems. This helps employees and managers stay on track on a day-to-day basis better than using periodic reviews.

    The Solution Decision

    The decision to implement an ERP solution is an organization's commitment to sharing information, standardizing data definitions, standardizing methods and often standardizing its system platforms (system architecture). The result gives management the ability to easily analyze the organization's performance and manage all resources including financial, materials, people, customers and assets.

    Solution or System

    ERP solution and ERP system have become synonymous. The ERP methodology is heavily dependent on automated processing and storage of data. Not every software application fits the definition of ERP. The basic principles outlined previously should be present in a system architecture in order to call itself an ERP solution.
