  • According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 16.2 km sq (6.3 square miles). 16.0 km sq (6.2 mi sq) of it is land and 0.2 km sq (0.1 mi sq) of it (1.28%) is water. The Rum River flows north to south through the middle of Cambridge. Camping, canoeing, and fishing are popular attractions of the Rum River. Cambridge is a rapidly growing city. It is a regional shopping center with many 'big box' stores. The recently expanded Cambridge Medical Center serves as the regional health care center. As a government center, Cambridge is the County Seat. The new Court House serves many functions. Cambridge Isanti High School, Cambridge Middle School, and Cambridge Elementary are the main learning centers (schools) there. Mr. Charlie Burroughs, Principal of Cambridge Middle School, was recently named "Middle School Principal of the Year for Minnesota". Two new schools are being built to house the expanding school population. A new Cambridge Middle School and a new Isanti Elementary will be completed in the fall of 2006.
