According to Hardwood Installer, installing a hardwood floor under or before cabinet installation lets the builder avoid using trim moldings, and kitchen remodeling in the future is easier because it doesn't matter what size cabinets the homeowner uses as the wood covers the entire kitchen floor surface. The builder also avoids having to make numerous cuts in the wood floor to fit it around cabinets. Hardwood Installer also says that hardwood floor is easier to damage if it is installed before putting in cabinets. It states, "Cabinets have to be set down before they are ready to lift and install. Sometimes they are set down on a corner, [and] dings happen." Installing the cabinets first helps the builder avoid damaging expensive hardwood floor. If cabinet installation has not taken place, it is best to install the hardwood floors to cover the entire kitchen floor surface. If cabinets are already installed, however, you don't need to install the hardwood floor under the cabinets.
